Q: What religion are you?
A: I am a Christian, saved at 17 and on the long journey of sanctification. I am a Jesus-follower and a member of a nondenominational church, Eastbrook. I uphold the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds.
Q: What is your education?
A: I have an MA in intercultural studies and a DMin in missionary care from Columbia Biblical Seminary in SC. I am a nurse practitioner with an RN and APRN license and am certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My nursing education was at University of WI-Milwaukee (BSN, MSN) and my post-graduate certificate was through University of Kansas Medical Center.
Q: Are you married? What is your family situation?
A: I am married to Paul for 45 years. We have four adult married children and 10 grandchildren.
Q: Is your husband available to work with men? Do you ever work together as a couple for speaking engagements, teaching, etc.?
A: Yes. Paul wrote his doctoral dissertation on Factors influencing North American missionary men to remain sexually pure (2008). He loves to teach on spiritual disciplines and formation. Together, we enjoy couples, conferences, and mission work.
Q: What is your ministry experience?
A: Paul and I were missionaries in Mali, West Africa over a 10-year period with United World Mission. My husband has also served in the pastorate; I know what it means to be a missionary wife and mother of MKs and a pastor’s wife and mother of PKs!
I have worked professionally as a parish nurse, a missionary care provider, a trainer of community health promoters, and a family nurse practitioner in a Catholic homeless clinic. My private psychiatric nurse practitioner practice specialized in Christian counseling and medication management. I have provided and facilitated retreats, workshops, and seminars for Christian missions and organizations around the world.
Q: What are your views on homosexuality and transgender?
A: These are very sensitive and tender areas. If we use Mark Yarhouse’s paradigm of 3 lenses (see Mark Yarhouse on gender dysphoria): integrity, disability, and diversity, I tend toward the disability view. Since the Fall, nothing is as it was created to be. My full understanding of the biblical theology of sexuality can be found in my book, Restoring the Paths: Sexuality for Christian Leaders.
Q: Are you in favor of using psychiatric medications?
A: Yes, if needed, and in combination with spiritual care, exercise, nutrition, and counseling.
Q: What do you charge for an honorarium?
A: I request that my travel, housing, and food be provided and that you determine the honorarium.
Q: What do you charge for copy-writing?
A: I charge $50/hour or a negotiated project fee. This includes research, phone calls, reports, surveys, interviews, organization of files, reading background materials, meetings, investigating the competition, outlining, writing, editing, proofing, revisions, etc.
Q: What do you charge for copy-editing?
A: $4-6/page.
Q: What is your book about and who is the intended audience?
A: Restoring the Paths: Sexuality for Christian Leaders is a book about your sexual journey and finding the Lord’s healing in your life today. It includes the unique challenges a Christian leader faces in our culture, a biblical theology of sexuality, and special sections on dealing with betrayal, singleness in the Church, and sex education for children and youth in the church.
